Great keyboard turns your tablet into a netbook. : Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 Mobile Docking
I had been reading the reviews and had been worried about the battery performance/drain. I've been using my keyboard dock for any days now, and I'm not sure what the issue is when it comes to the battery life. The keyboard dock seems to enhance the distance that I can use the Transformer by quite a bit. I did setup the firmware upgrade which I was prompted to do, and I don't use the tablet setting that activates the tablet as soon as I open the lid. I have to push the power button (but not a full power-cycle) just like I would if it wasn't docked. I think the battery life is great.
Some have mentioned that docking can be difficult. Again, I haven't had an issue. As long as I line up the tablet edges with the docks edges, it seems to snap into place quite easily. I have rarely had to "fumble around" trying to get the tablet in place. Undocking is easy, too, as you just move the switch to unlock and remove the tablet.
As far as the dock goes, it authentically looks nice together with the colors and matching style. The keyboard is a microscopic small, and my big hands brush against the touchpad too often which can cause issues when typing within a document or email. However, the touchpad is an awesome addition. I have not used the Usb ports or Sd slot so I can't speak about that although I love having them available. I was involved that there would be "typing lag," but the keyboard is quite responsive.
I do have a merge of issues which is why I didn't give it 5-stars. First, (as of the time of this writing), I paid about $130 which seems very pricey for a keyboard dock. I think a fairer price would be $75. The other is that it adds quite a bit of weight to the unabridged package. Not a deal-breaker by any means. The weight is understandable as 1) the keyboard is very well constructed and does not feel flimsy and 2) it has a battery pack which I'm sure adds to the weight. Given these considerations, it is a fair trade-off over having something lighter, but less funtional and durable.
Overall, the keyboard doc takes the functionality of my Transformer to a whole new level. I'm highly happy with the purchase. My poor laptop will now get even less love that it did before I got the dock. If you like my retell Please click on Yes so that others may find this retell more easily. Thanks!
